Christian Formation at South Church

Julia Grice
Director of Christian Education
Julia Grice has a special connection to the church, having
grown up as part of this faith community herself. She has
always had a heart for helping others, especially children and
youth, and loves creating welcoming spaces where people can
learn, grow, ask questions, and feel connected to their church
community.

While a large focus of Christian Education currently centers
around children and youth programming, Julia, with the support
of the South Church Faith Formation Committee, is also helping
bring back meaningful programs from years past while creating
new opportunities for learning and fellowship across all ages.
Julia lives locally with her husband, Anthony, their kids, their
dog Annie, and their cat Finnick, who has firmly appointed
himself head of the household.
People are welcomed into the Christian Faith through Baptism. Our tradition has offered baptisms to infants and children brought forward by their parents, who, along with the congregation, promised to guide them into full faith and understanding.
Baptism is also offered to adults who wish to profess their faith and join the church. Baptism should only happen once in a person's life, so youth are invited to affirm their baptisms by participating in a Confirmation Class; and members new to this congregation are invited to reaffirm their faith when they join the church.
In their teenage years, youth are invited to go through a Confirmation class in which they explore the traditions, beliefs and tenets of the Christian faith, at the end of which they are offered the opportunity to Confirm their faith and become full members of the church.
Every Sunday morning during the program year (Sept. to May) children gather for a special message during our worship service, and then are invited to proceed to Sunday School, where they engage in learning about our faith - the stories, lessons, and traditions around which we gather. All children are welome!

Adult Education - Conversations and Connections (in the planning phase)
Each Sunday in the program year (Sept. - May) we are hoping to offer opportunities for adults, and occasionally an intergenerational activity, designed to help us deepen our faith, strengthen our relationships, and connect more fully with the world around us. Offered from 11:30 - 12:30, all are welcome.

Safe Church Policy
We strive to make our church/congregation a safe, supportive, and caring place that is free of sexual misconduct, harassment, physical harm, bullying, or inappropriate interactions. Our goal is to model faith values as we partner in the spiritual development of our children and youth.
